Mural Ankara

Designed as part of Accessible Film Festival, Mural Ankara was held between 26-29 September 2019 in Ankara.

The English word "Mural" means "relating to or resembling to a wall". Mural as a street art; refers to pictures drawn on large surfaces such as walls, ceilings etc. In the 21st century, the art of mural is used to draw attention to the social, political and economic problems of the citizens, and is carried out to address the socio-economic problems of the environment and the neighborhood, rather than a cosmetic decoration. Wall paintings in various areas of the city such as buildings, walls, and water reservoirs allow especially disadvantaged groups to express themselves and help them to identify themselves as part of a wider community.

The mural event, which was organized as a part of Accessible Film Festival, brought together three women mural artists and three women disabled rights activists and aimed to find a representation and expression space for the problems experienced by women with disabilities in the city.

On the occasion of the event organized in collaboration with the British Council, three mural artists and three activists came together to discuss the problems that women with disabilities often encounter in their daily lives. The artists created a mural idea based on what was discussed at this meeting. Then each artist applied their sketches on three different walls in Çankaya region between September 27-29. Artists' works can be seen at the following addresses.
